------ In two weeks I’ll be going to a beautiful thing at the most northern part of Kentucky. It’s called SugoiCon, and I’ve been waiting on this for a long time. The last con I went to was Ohayocon 05’, way back on January 15th. (January 15th is in the running for best day of 2005.) What was Ohayocon like? Bliss. The main things I remember are tripping over my kimono three dozen times, wanting to buy foam nun chucks but being turned away because I was too young to purchase a “weapon”, the elevators that didn’t work, the chaos that ensued when it was time for the concert we (me and Dan) knew nothing of and there were people running everywhere, going to the food court to get our bearings straight, buying Mom a Hello Kitty, the random Japanese guy who asked what was going on within the Hyatt Regency while we were waiting for Dad to pick us up, and likewise not being able to FIND Dad’s car even though he was 40 feet away. That sort of stopped being “main things” to “everything” somewhere along the way. Eheh. ^^;;; Mistakes I made then but hope not to this time: 1: Not looking at the schedule of events. (Ohayocon stuck it in a wad of ads… Can we really be blamed?) 2: Don’t wear ling clothing. (I think I pulled a muscle tripping over that kimono) 3: Being too shy to talk to anyone. (Depending on my Dad, I aspire to glomp cosplayers this time around, too) 4: Be there for more than 4 hours total. (self-explanatory) And our Plan of Attack for SugoiCon is: October 28th, 9:30 AM: Leave for two hour trip to Kentucky. 12:00 noon: Pick up badges with our pre-reg cards, Dad procures parent/chaperone badge. 1:00 PM: Make a beeline for the Vendor’s Hall. 3:00 PM: Dad ditches out and checks into motel. (Huh. I guess we’ll have to work lunch in here somewhere.) 5:00 PM: Dinner of some kind…. God knows. And then, we’ll either lay around the motel room all evening, me huggling/reading/eating/wearing/playing with/staring at all my new shwag, or, we’ll set out and roam the grounds some more. It really depends on what’s happening when. (the con sites NEVER list a schedule.) Anywhere between 11:30 PM-2:30 AM: I fall asleep. Hopefully. (I typically can’t sleep in motels. I’m hoping I’ll be zombiefied enough to just flop.) Saturday is more unknown, I just know that’s when I’ll be cosplaying. We’ll leave sometime on Sunday (probably after breakfast), and I’ll probably postpone the “Awuu…. The con is over….” depression by sleeping at least half the way home. ….Probably on a giant blue pillow, clutching a plushie as I drool. Cons are a beautiful thing, a beautiful thing that will teach my feet the true definition of exhaustion, and my father the true definition of insanity. |

------ First off, Baltimore city scares me. On making it to the city, I had a horrible time getting to the hotel. Can no one in the city drive like a decent human being? Or is being a posterior a default setting? We ended up getting there before our hotel key bringer, so we parked the car in a garage, left all but our purses there, and headed for the con all around 4 PM Friday. I felt so wrong, being dressed normally as we aproached the convention - we had meant to change before we went, but a lack of hotel put a plug on that idea. Still, though, not even dull clothes could crush our spirits as we reached the door, grabbed a friend, and started shopping the dealers room ^.^ We shopped till I dropped my multiple bags (found out later I lost one in the crowd... I'll never again see those Tokyo Mew Mew chibi pins... Or my W Juliet fan *sigh*) and headed back for the hotel. On trying to check in, we discovered that they needed a downpayment on the room we'd reserved (on the phone they had told us we could pay later) thankfully I had cash left and could put $100 up for the room. The elevators were full, so we climped the stairs up 8 floors. It was like death had come for our souls, so we staggered for the room gasping for breath... gain entrance... and find only one bed. It was the wrong room. We stumbled back down the stairs, carrying all the crap we bought, waited in line another 1/2 hour, waited while they figured things out, and finally managed to catch the elevator back up to the correct room. With no time to actually change, we grab random accessories and funky things before dashing to the rave at 10 PM. We ended up dancing till around 1 or so, before stumbling out and looking for food due to my anemia (I was about to pass out from hunger. Stupid anemia!) with a bunch of other random otaku. One guy said he drew hentai, and would love to draw me because I was so hyper and seemed like an anime character. -_-U And another was just creepy and wouldn't leave me alone - oh how I wished of hauling over and kicking the guys rear. But finally we found food at a local bar and grill, right before they stopped serving for the night. Finally we managed to ditch everyone, get our bags, and make it back to the hotel at about 3 AM for an all to short night of sleep. I volunteered for floor duty, and froze my rear off, but I was so tired I didn't care. Heh, all that was only Friday night... Guess I'll break things down then, ne? I'm to sick to write anymore tonight... So till I rant again, yo! ^.~ |
